Royal Rant: When Rosie Made Me Cry

I love the new Rosie O'Donnell show. Yes I said it, and no I won't take it back. With her first show back in the 90's, Rosie made me fall in love with Broadway and treated soap stars the same as movie stars. Then she stopped her show and went on a self imposed hiatus, and that was killer. Finally she came back to daytime TV as moderator of The View and man that was the best season of that show!!

When Oprah announced that Rosie would be launching a new talk show on OWN, I was ecstatic. When it launched in October I was enamored with it, sure it lacked the charm of her old show but I have seen shows develop over time, Ellen anyone?  Now the show has its stride and the former Queen Of Nice seems to be trying to win back her title.

First she gave an unemployed audience member, Hollee, a job as her announcer. That in itself was very awe inducing and should give a certain segment of the population pause. Here people are slamming Rosie and yet she is creating jobs and opportunities for people who may not otherwise have that chance.

Then there was the guest, the one that made me laugh and cry. Now don't get the wrong idea about me,  I don't turn on the waterworks for just anything. No it takes something very special to bring on the tears. Anyways she brought on this boy, who kind of reminded me of a white Justin from Ugly Betty, who more than anything wants to be a costume designer.

Rosie brought him on, and they talked about all things dealing with costume design and being gay. Then Rosie brought out a special guest for the little guy, his idol RuPaul. Now I am not a RuPaul fan, much too much for me but I can respect the guy/gal for making some money! Anyways the most famous drag queen in the world shot the breeze with the young teen, and then came all of the gifts. The biggest and best one was the chance to go see The Phantom Of The Opera on Broadway with his family. Then Rosie topped it with a backstage pass, to talk to the costume designer.

The tears flowed out of me like the vodka flows into Chelsea Handler. Many times I have prayed for something like that to happen to me. Now that I have seen it happen for the kid, I have renewed hope that Rosie or another talk show will take pity on a struggling writer and will open some doors for me.
