It's no secret to anyone that reads this site on a regular basis that I am a card carrying Democrat. IN the last presidential election I supported Hillary Clinton until she lost the nomination to President Obama and then I supported him. Not just because he was a Democrat but because his ideology was closer to mine than John McCain and Sarah Palin's did.
That being said, I do have friends that are republican and we have normal conversations, shocking I know. The reason I bring this up is because last week, Kelly Clarkson tweeted her support for potential Republican nominee Ron Paul. The backlash she received was more than uncalled for, it was as many people like to throw around Un-American. Despite the things people said to the pop diva, she rose above and handled the entire situation with class, here’s what she had to say:
Man my eyes have been opened to so much hate tonight. If y'all ever disagree with something I say please don't feel the need to attack me. I will listen to what you say and any articles or viewpoints you have when you say it with respect. Being hateful is not a healthy way to get people to see or hear you. I was raised to respect people and their decisions and beliefs and I hope you will grant me the same decency. If you don't agree with me simply unfollow me. It's really that easy. I hope you don't because I would love the chance to hear what you have to say but if you're so blinded by hate you can't seek peace and progress then that is your unfortunate prerogative.
I don't know enough about Ron Paul to form an opinion but I will say that what I have read about him, he seems to be very wish washy on issues and that worries me. However Kelly is entitled to support who she wants to, and if she chooses to endorse that person on her twitter account, no one has the right to spew hate at her. Open up a conversation with her, maybe you can change her views or she could possibly change yours. Either way, this country was founded on the principle that all men were created equal, and we should treat each other as such!
