It's a wonder what some classes will teach you, not only in the learning sense, but also in the sense of discovering things about yourself. I'm taking world civilization this semester and it is quite intriguing and has given me more story ideas than an entire season of Glee! Part of the class is learning about the religions that defined some of the earliest civilizations, and I came across a quote that really spoke to me.
So being who I am and not willing to back away from controversy I posted this as my status during Ringer on Tuesday night
One person formerly on my friends list took offense to this and proclaimed that Facebook should only be for games, nothing political or religious. Now I knew that putting a status like that up would cause quite the stir, and hopefully open a dialogue between some of my more conservative friends and I. I don't believe that there is anything wrong with debate, as long as both side is respectful.
Therein lies my problem with organized religion. The bible has been interpreted so many times, with so many competing agendas that it lost it's heart. Everyone can make an argument for or against a controversial issue with the bible but everyone forgets that really at the end of the day, it's not for us to judge. To the person who was on my friends list, I did not unfriend him because he viewed things differently from me but because he decided to pass judgement without knowing me, without hearing my side of the argument.
For me St. Matthews statement above is decrying hate, it's saying don't worry if someone is gay orblack or a woman or whatever, but if hate is your choice then the group that has to deal with your discrimination will be blessed! Now if only I could get my message out to religious leaders through out the world.

"For all of the right wing conservative haters, From St Matthew: "Blessed are you whenmen revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account"
