Royal Rant: Something Wicked This Way Comes

Oo Gossipers, happiness does not describe the feeling that I feel right now. Wicked, my all time favorite musical, is coming back to Detroit in December. I have already seen this show once but I am going to see it again because well that's how I roll (see I even worked in a Britney reference for this post), and frankly it excites me to no end.

I remember when I was first introduced to this delightful musical. A friend and I had been talking about things we liked and he noted that I hadn't said musicals. He thought it was weird because I am a walking stereotype, and asked me about it. I told him that yes I had a few but not many musicals that I liked, so he told me about this show based on the Wicked Witch Of The West. Optimistic I was not, but he sent me the song popular off of the soundtrack and I fell in love with it. I asked for another song, a longer more serious one and he sent me Dancing through Life, and I was hooked.

Soon after my then boyfriend decided he wanted to go shopping. Well he was suppose to be on a budget, so like any supportive boyfriend I said if you buy yourself anything, you have to buy me the Wicked soundtrack. To my surprise and delight he agreed, and then I thought well damn I guess he;s not buying anything and I'm going to be forced to buy the damn CD myself. To my surprise we went to the mall and he bought a flag, which should have been a warning that something wasn't right with him but I digress, and then he went to FYE and bought me what I wanted.

On the way back home, we listened to the entire CD and replayed it so many times I learned all the lyrics by heart. My favorite song soon became Defying Gravity which let me say Idina Menzel just totally rocks out with ample help from my beloved Kristin Chenoweth.  My roommate and best friend grew tired of it probably after 5 minutes but was a good sport and never said anything until after we didn't live together anymore.

Then another friend told me that for Christmas he had bought me a ticket to the show when it came to Detroit for the first time. I literally cried, I was so happy. He and another friend came and got me, setting off for our adventure to Oz. Sure I was sad that Idina and Cheno weren't playing Elphaba and Glinda but they story really stands up to the test of time, and doesn't matter who plays the characters.

My friends, beloved gossipers if you don't have the CD, or if you haven't seen the show you have to. Maybe you won't be as obsessed with it as I am but you will love it, I promise!!
