I always say to my friends (especially poor Mandy!) what I would do differently if I wrote soaps. A disclaimer I really want to write for a soap and believe that there is still a place for them on TV. If the "real" networks don't want them then TNT, USA, Lifetime should start developing their own. Trust me there is an audience and plenty of Daytime Superstars looking for work, including the beloved Van Hansis!!! Onward!
I love Susan Lucci and this doppleganger story started off with potential. Somewhere along the way though it became a hard pill to swallow, and it has nothing to do with Susans performance because she deserves an Emmy for selling this story. No I think its the plot itself, while there is something quite intriguing about it still, I think there was a better way to deal with it. How would I write it? I'm glad you asked, its easy as pie Erica Kane has multiple personalities.
Susan has gone around calling this a moderntake on Identity theft but what about a modern take on Sybil? Erica has all the makings of a classic D.I.D. patient and there could be a case for black outs. She took a drink in front of herdaughter Kendall and nothing has ever been said about that again, so the writers could have very easily started building a case for this disorder.
Caleb could have caught on first when he overheard the Diva refer to herself as Jane, and told Jack who didn't believe his rival. Kendall listens to the mountain man and sides with him, while Bianca sides with her uncle Jack and this causes friction between the sisters, and in the family. As we got closer to the reveal more people involved in Ericas life could be roped in, including a moment of the alter seducing Jacob Young's JR. When Jr's ex Marissa sees them kissing she flees and finds comfort in Binks arms before realizing what she did.
JR falls for Erica, and pursues her hard core. His father Adam over hears that his son is chasing after his ex wife and comes back to Pine Valley, with current love Brooke English in tow. Adam talks with Erica and realizes that something is terribly wrong, but Brooke thinks she is faking it. This leads to "Jane" and Adam bonding. It also lends itself to Brooke and Jack becoming close once again and maybe taking their relationship to a whole other level...
Now that is what I call good old fashioned soapy fun!!
