Sarah looked at the check again. 1 million seemed like a fair amount to give Sunny, but of course in return she would sign an agreement that She would be out of Shanes life forever. It was but a small price to pay in order to protect her son.
“She's here to see you.” Kevin said efficiently. Sarah knew that she would have to deal with his little revelation later, but right now Sunny being engaged to her son was the important problem. Shane may not realize it now, but all the tramp wanted was the money and this would be the proof.
“I know why you asked me to come here,” Sunny said smartly. “And you are wasting both of our times, I love Shane and I won't leave him no matter what you do to me.”
“Dear, I have no intention of doing anything to you.” Sarah walked around her desk and stood face to face with the girl who was trying to stand up to her. “In fact it's quite the opposite, I want to help you out.”
“Somehow I doubt your intentions are solely for my benefit. So let's just cut the crap and get on with it.”
“Such language for a lady.”
“I don't follow the molds just because that's what you think I should do.” Sunny eyed her soon to be mother in law. “Join us in the 21st century Sarah, I am not marrying your son for his money, or for any other reason than love.”
“How very quaint,” Sarah fought the urge to smack the bitch in front of her. “And not the truth at all. We both know that if Shane were dirt poor you would have nothing to do with him. You want to get your grubby little hands on this family's fortune and I simply will not allow it.”
“If that's what I wanted, don't you think that I would have convinced him to elope?”
“You are many things but dumb is not one of them. You know that if you were to elope, I would have that marriage annulled before you can say 'I'm pregnant.'” Sarah decided to toy with the hussy in front of her a bit. This wasn't the first time she had to deal with a harlot trying to trip up the men she loved. “So darling since you called me out and we are on equal footing, at least in your eyes, why don't we cut to the chase. I don't want you near my son, and I am willing to make a very generous offer to make you disappear for good.”
“Nothing you have to offer me, will get me to leave your son, he is my soulmate.”
Sarahs eyes bugged out “Excuse me I think I just puked in my mouth a little.”
“Bitch.”
“You know I was going to offer you a million dollars, but now dear, now I am just going to bury you. Shane will open his eyes before it's too late, and you will be out of his life for good.”
Alyssa found Shane sitting outside the college. “What are you doing here? I thought you went to State?”
“I did, ummm that was before ah I got engaged!” Shane was nervous about telling Alyssa. She was known for making scenes and that was the last thing he needed and wanted.
“Engaged? Surely I didn't hear correctly. All those times we were sleeping together and you promised me that I was the one you would marry.”
“We were kids, I would have said anything to get laid. I mean come on I was a guy and you were easy.”
“Easy? You slime, what would mommy say if she knew her precious baby boy forced me to get an abortion? I bet little miss republican wouldn't like that very much now would she?”
“Lys please understand we would never have worked out, we are from different worlds, just because both of our families are rich, doesn't mean that we belong together. Sunny is helping me find myself.”
“Good God you are full of it Shane. The only thing she is helping you find is your teeny tiny little...”
“You didn't find it so tiny when we were together.”
“Maybe I wouldn't now either, Let's have sex and find out.”
Shane felt a familiar stirring, of course it was no surprise if the wind blew in the right direction he felt the sensation. He knew he had to fight the temptation, his mother had probably sent Alyssa to get him away from Sunny. “I cant Lys, I love Sunny.”
“Sure you do. And I love furs but that doesn't mean every once in a while I won't wear a mink.” Without another word, she kissed him, and let her hands wander down his pants. “Just what I thought, nice and ready for mama.”
With that he felt the relief he needed. “Thanks Lys but no. I am a taken man.” He walked away from her as she fumed.
“This is not over Shane. I will not be turned down when you slept with a guy. Jesus, I will find my way back into your bed if it's the last thing I ever do.”
A passerby looked at her strangely. “Honey, this is no soap opera we don't do soliloquies here. If you need to talk to yourself, go home otherwise I'm calling the cops.”
Laura paced around the house waiting for Jason to get home. There was no way she was going to weasel out of telling her what was going on. As his wife she had a right to know why he wasn't answering his phone when she called. No excuse would be good enough, there had to be certain rules that were to be followed and answering his phone would be one of them.
She thought back to the day Jason had asked her to marry him, it was less than romantic but still an engagement is still an an engagement. He had asked her to meet him at her favorite restaurant, a simple little Italian bistro in the middle of down town.
She had barely sat down when he launched into his proposal. “Laura, you are one of my best friends, and I need a favor, kind of a big one,” The waiter had taken their order and she was on the edge of her seat waiting to find out what he wanted to ask of her. “I am about to get a lot of money, the problem is, I have to get married. That's where you come, I want you to be my wife. We won't have a traditional marriage, not by any means. We can see other people, live our lives as we would if we were single, we'll just be married. After a year or so of marriage, we'll break up but remain the best of friends.”
She had readily accepted. Why would she not? Though she did try to protest the open marriage idea, he quickly made that a requirement of the marriage. “Listen Laura, I don't love you and you don't love me, let's not be fake with one another because for the next year or so we will be lying to everyone in our lives, we need to be honest with one another.”
Then he started talking money and once again her head was clouded, she knew that his family was the richest and most powerful in town but she knew nothing of what they did. “I'm going to transfer $250,000 into your account as a down payment, and once we divorce you'll get the payout from the prenup. Please don't fight when they present it to you, I will make sure you are taken care of.”
She hadn't slept with anyone else since the marriage, and she doubted he had. He was always away on business or tied up in one meeting or another. If thats the case, she thought why did she fly off the handle? Something, she couldn't out her finger on what, but someone was taking his heart away from her.
It suddenly dawned on her what she had to do. She had to talk to someone who was used to getting what and who they wanted, when they wanted it. She had ot talk to Alyssa.
