While reading this book, it made me a little sad that Soapnet is going off the air. If the executives of the all soap network had been a little smarter they could have adapted the Soap Opera Mystery series into a series of TV movies. So I decided to ignore cold hard facts and play pretend for a moment that my idea could easily happen.
For the main role I say we stick with the author, who I'm guessing would also be a producer on the films: Eileen Davidson. Who better than the Emmy winning actress to play the role that she created, presumably after herself. Alexis Peterson is quite the soap heroine, something that Eileen has a lot of experience with after being on Days Of Our Lives, The Young And the Restless, and The Bold and The Beautiful.
For the role of Marcy Blanchard there are two very different women who could easily play the role, Susan Lucci or Heather Locklear. As the villainous headwriter both women have experience and could bring a certain warmth to the character that would make you love her. Just for the sake of keeping this purely soap related Susan gets the edge.
For Alexis' boyfriend Paul, I think they should dig into her characters romantic past and go with someone like Kyle Lowder. Sure he may look young but I believe that could work in favor for this, plus it would be a slam dunk that they have chemistry together.
And finally the really difficult role to cast. The one of Det. Frank Jakes, the detective in charge of investigating the murder of Marcy. For this I searched high and low in my mind for just the perfect actor to take the part, and many fine actors came to mind. Michael Park, Michael Easton both immediately sprang to mind, but they have already played cops and I wouldn't want to typecast them. So I decided that All My Childrens Ricky Paul Goldin would be perfect! He has the charisma, the chops and the range to play the complicated role.
