In the past few months I have shed about 30 pounds from my frame. A lot of people have asked me how I did it, and if I think it would work for them. The second part of the question I can not answer, because I am a writer, not a doctor. If I was i wouldn't have time to maintain this site, or do any number of the other projects I am working on, :-).
However I can and will answer the first part. The very first thing I did was cut out pop. Now when I say this I must add that I do allow myself to have one every once in a while, especially if I have a craving. See this is something that we do wrong all the time, I feel. We get this idea to lose weight, and go to an extreme and cut ourselves off from thing that we really enjoy. Then in a moment of weakness we over indulge and let go of all of our progress that we have made. My way if I want a pop I have one, more and more lately I find even when I do order one or buy one I don't finish it.
After I cut out the pop, I started walking. Everyday for an hour a day I walk, not only do i feel great doing it but it helps me work out plot points that I'm stuck on, ideas for articles/columns etc. During my walk I only glance at my phone for the time, not to respond to texts or make phone calls. That time is my time, like I said it frees my mind to wander and create plots or ideas, then develop them and figure out the voice of whatever I am working on.
The next step was to add in some more exercise, I choose jumping jacks because they were relatively easy and I didn't have to google anything. I started out doing 20 a day and worked my way up to 50, I could do more but I have yet to decide if I want to. This again is a personal choice and one that you should make with the help of your physician, I am only relaying what works for me.
Now that all the exercise and what not is out of the way, I drink my weight in water every day. A friend told that I should drink half my weight but you know I don't do anything half way. Let me clarify this too, if you weight 150 pounds you should theoretically drink 75 OUNCES of water, not literally your weight. I do this with the help of MIO which enhances water with flavor and without calories.
I still eat whatever I want, but just in moderation. I will never be a salad eater, at least not exclusively. I love my steak and potatoes, my hamburgers and fries all of it. Now though instead of eating four or five helpings of mashed potatoes (my weakness) I limit myself to just one or two if I was particularly good that day.
