Reading the blind items one might think that there are no straight people left in Hollywood. However if you ask the majority of actors and actress they will proclaim that they are indeed heterosexual but have no problems with gay people, in fact some of their best friends are gay.
If they are indeed straight then why do these blind items contradict that? The argument could be made that the blind items don't name names and may in fact be made up, however there is evidence to the contrary. Most Gossip Columnists use blind items to shield themselves from being sued.
The "Gay Rumors" fly around almost every leading man in Hollywood from Tom Cruise (TommyGirl to most), Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Vin Diesel, John Travolta who infamously kissed a "friend" as he boarded a plane, to the younger generation of Hollywood Zac Efron is a favorite target as is Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, who works tirelessly for gay youth. Robert Pattinson, of Twilight fame often is questioned of his sexuality with conflicting reports that he is dating his Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart.
How do these rumors get started? Many believe that one person finds the guy (or gal, even though none were mentioned above) attractive and want them to be gay. There has to be more to it than that though, if it was just people (gay men or gay women) finding their favorite star attractive the rumor wouldn't be able to take hold the way it does. And if it is a case of wishful thinking why does it take such a hold with straight people? There has to be substantial evidence for these rumors to take hold.
