Glad I wasn't on the receiving end of this thrashing from fans on his facebook page. Our friend Nelson Branco announced the nominations for his Soap Opera Spirit Awards and conspicuously absent from the nominations was our beloved Van Hansis. This set off vans rather large fan base, one person saying "You mention Van, only when you mention Eric too (or when you mention this so bad actor, [Jake] Silbermann). Van Hansis is way better than what you seem to think about him. He was perfection in the scenes when Eric wasn't there, especially when Luke cried Reid's death. Give more credits to Van's talent"" Nelson defended himself by saying that not everyone who was worthy got a nom "Susan Flannery didn't get an indy nomination, either. Do I hate her, too? And she had STAGE 4 lung cancer."
I clearly agree with the fans this time, I named Van best actor in the best/worst Soap Sense. For those attacking Nelson, I say hear him out. The man loves and knows soaps and there may be a reason Van didn't get nominated. I don't know what his process is, only what mine is.

We all know Van Hansis has so much dignity and doesn't give a shit about stupid Branco. Branco has his favorites, many of those are very bad actors. Van Hansis is too good for this stupidity.

A lot of fans have more of an issue with Nelson than Van himself seems to have. Most of it based on Nelson voicing his opinion about the Nuke sex episode not being publicized during the first Rock the Soap cruise in 2008. There was some tension during the Nuke Q&A event between both actors and Nelson but it was over with for the three men immediately after the event...Van even went and shook Nelson's hand. The bad blood is a product of overzealous fans imagination not anything legit.
Nelson Branco has often said mean things about both Hansis and Silbermann... not to mention, their characters. I'm not sure if I trust his opinion.
Everyone is allowed to have their own opinions, but I feel like unnecessary vitriol should be avoided.
I love Van and Jake- and I think they both did a wonder job with what they were given last year. I do think they both deserve recognition for that.
I think many times people forget that even as an actor, you are limited to your script and direction- and even better- the editors. Both Van and Jake were treated awfully by the soap in that regard. Jake, especially was treated so poorly by script-writers and director alike.
@Anon 8:01-- I never got the feeling that there was any animosity between them (Nelson and Van) but often times I'm the last to pick up on that stuff.
@Anon9:58-- I often don't criticize actors for the very reasons you listed. Especially since most of them have their hands tied by directors and editors
I was angry with Nelson Branco for omitting Van this year again.Some other posters on other sites said he has always omitted Van.If this is true I'd like to know why.2010 was really Vans year.Every scene he was in was wonderful.Even when the writing wasn't good he always managed to still do a great job.He's so gifted as an actor and so good looking too.I could watch him all day.(and lately I have on You Tube)Not to mention that any fan events I've seen or any interviews he's done prove he's always so gracious and such a nice guy.i wish him the very best best because he more than anyone deserves it!
MMC you said. I haven't tried talking to him one on one but many people who have say the same thing, he is so down to earth and wonderful that I almost feel ashamed not to try and open a dialouge with him
