New Harry Potter Trailer

The beginning of the end is near for the most successful film franchise in history. This November Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 1 debuts and will be quickly followed in July of 2011 by Part 2. Excitement is filling the air as the most anticipated movie of our generation is being prepared for release.

A Melrose Murder

Amy Locane, who played innocent actress Sandy Harling on the original Melrose place, has been charged with vehicular manslughter in Montgomery, New Jersey. Following a booze filled Sunday night, Amy crashed her 2007 Tahoe into another car, killing a woman inside, Helen Seeman, and seriously injuring the womans husband Frank. While another passenger with the victim was trying to get help, Amy took off, "swerving and knocking down several mailboxes." the witness told Prosecutor A. Peter DeMarco, Jr.

the former actress confessed to drinking and driving and is awaiting her day in court.

Elijah FX

He may be a major dramatic movie star but Elijah Wood is taking some time to do a comedy. Of course the comedy will be on TV, specifically on cabler FX. Elijah will be starring in Wildfried, a remake of an Australian sitcom. The show will revolve around a guy (played by Elijah), A girl (who has yet to be cast), and the title character a mixed breed dog (who will be played by the Australian originator Jason Gann).

Larry King Hanging Up His Microphone

He's the Barbra Walters of cable newscasting, he has interviewed every major celebrity, covered every major news story for the past 25 years. And now Larry King is saying saynora to the talk show that has made his fortune for him. He posted the news on his blog “It’s time to hang up my nightly suspenders, Twenty-five years ago, I sat across this table from New York Governor Mario Cuomo for the first broadcast of Larry King Live. Now, decades later, I talked to the guys here at CNN, and I told them I would like to end Larry King Live, the nightly show, this fall, and CNN has graciously accepted, giving me more time for my wife and I to get to the kids’ little-league games. I’ll still be a part of the CNN family, hosting several Larry King specials on major national and international subjects.”

Brandon Hacked Or Silenced?

Brandon Buddy set the internet on fire when he announced via his twitter account, that he had not re-signed his contract with One Life To Live. Now though the actor has changed his tune and is claiming that his account had been hacked. "Had a hacker.Doing everything I can to make sure it doesn't happen again. I'm sorry for upsetting everyone,what they said wasn't true." He then retweeted his 'sadness' that he had been hacked "i love you guys. I want you guys to be happy, i'm really sorry this happened." 


But many aren't buying this, because ABC Daytime is notorious for wanting to keep actors from letting fans know what is going on. Star after star has been told to deny it. Their weak statement Brandon Buddy "remains under contract" especially considering the network has been testing Brandon look alike Evan Alex Cole, presumably for the role of Cole.

Leo Talks Hoover

Superstar Leo DiCaprio has taken on many roles over the years but his most challenging may be stepping into the high heels of former FBI leader J Edgar Hoover. The gorgeous star finally confirmed that he was in talks with Clint Eastwood to star in the upcoming biopic. "I'm talking to Clint Eastwood about playing J. Edgar Hoover," he continued talking about the "secret life" of J Edgar "who had his hand in some of the most sort of scandalous events in American history—everything from the Vietnam war and Dillinger to Martin Luther King and JFK."

Leaving The City??

One time ratings powerhouse The Hills, enjoyed so muich success that it has a spinoff  "The City" but as the mother show has become more national joke than hot tv show, the franchise has suffered and rumors are swirling that this season may be the last of The City.

Other sources are claiming that star Whitney Port is so over being a tv personality that she may be the one pulling the plug on her reality show. Many are waiting for confirmation on this story

PRIDEful BSB They Want It That Way

Backstreet Boys performed at San Fransisco Pride this weekend, to the enjoyment of many. The foursome performed their mega hit "Want It That Way" and the crowd of lesbians, and gay men went wild!!!!

Of course numerous rumors have once again popped up about the groups sexuality, ranging from one was set to come out in a big way, and this was the first step to the whole group is gay and wanted everyone to know. There is no proof of either of the rumors being true.

Landon's Wife Isn't Angry

The world was shocked yesterday when it came out that U.S. Soccer star Landon Donovan may have fathered a child outside of his marriage. In yet another shocking twist in the story, Landons wife Bianca is not or angry by his alleged infidelity. A source close to the couple says  "She was not blindsided by this and isn’t angry." In fact she "is extremely supportive of Donovan."

Break Up Had One Positive Effect

He may be nursing a broken heart but Bachelor turned actor Jake Pavelka's split with his fiancee Vienna Girardi did have one positive come from it. According to one co-star it helped fuel his performance as a villainous reality show star. "Jake literally discovered the news about Vienna while on set, moments before shooting this scene for the first time," The co-star was quick to add "He did an incredible job"

Sandy Is Single

This was suppose to be a good year for Sandra Bullock. She was riding high, career wise, with The Proposal winning over critics and audiences, then the Oscar buzz for The Blind Side. It was all so perfect capped by her not so surprising win at the Academy Awards this past March. She was on top of the world and rightfully so.

Then a mere 10 days later, her life would change dramatically when it came out that her husband Jesse James had been cheating on her. The following days, weeks and months were a living nightmare for Americas Sweetheart. Paprazzi stalked her trying to get the first picture of the notoriously private star.

Fans across the world rallied behind their beloved Sandy, and she finally emerged and revealed that she had adopted a baby. In less shocking news she had also filed for divorce from her adulterous husband. Now the divorce is final, and Sandy is free to finalize the adoption of her baby as a single mom.

Steve Leaving Office

The Office launched Steve Carell into the stratosphere of fame, and now after almost 7 years he is looking to leave. “I just think it’s time, When I first signed on I had a contract for seven seasons, and this coming year is my seventh. I just thought it was time for my character to go.” Though Steve doesn't expect his departure to hurt the show, rather he think it will reinvigorate the show in a much more exciting way  “[This might] add some new life and some new energy to the show, I certainly didn’t anticipate any hubbub over it. I didn’t see it as a huge deal.”
Steve also adds that he has faith in the writers “[The writers],have incorporated so many new charcters and so many new, great storylines that I have no doubt it’ll continue as strong if not stronger than ever.”

Reaction To Drews Loss

Last night Drew Garret lost the younger actor award, which many thought to be his to lose. In fact many industry experts including our friend Dan Kroll, who runs Soapcentral, predicted that Drew would win his first time out. that was not to be alas and another Drew won the coveted award. Fans are outraged, the moderator of the facebook group Drew Garret to host SNL (Pretty Please) was so outraged that this message was put out "Well, all I have to say is I turned my tv off right after Drew got robbed on Emmy and stopped watching GH on Drew's last day." Another fan on the page really lety loose with her anger "He was robbed! What a crock these Emmy awards are! Well, we now know that this is just a corporate conspiracy and true talent is not what matters! Drew Garrett does not need this Emmy to prove anything. He is the best and we all know it!"

Is Shiloh Transgender? Angelina Says Yes

Four years ago, Shiloh Jolie Pitt was born and the world fell in love with the beautiful little girl. As time has gone on, the little tyke has gone the opposite way of fellow superstar toddler Suri Cruise. Suri likes to be in dresses, and beautified,  Shiloh however likes to dress down in pants and be rough and tough. Her mom says that's because she thinks she's a he!! Mom Angelina Jolie admits she dresses her daughter "like a little dude. Shiloh, we feel, has Montenegro style. It's how people dress there. She likes tracksuits, she likes [regular] suits. She likes to dress like a boy. She wants to be a boy. So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys' everything. She thinks she's one of the brothers."

Soccer star Landon Donovan is ab out to face a scandal. A British woman is claiming that he is the father of her unborn baby. While by all accounts this could seem innocent enough, Landon is still married to Bianca Kajlich. Landons one and only comment on the matter "I was informed of the possibility during the World Cup, and if I need to take responsibility, then I will provide the appropriate support. This is a private matter, and I will refrain from further comment at this time."

Katie Gets Gossip

Our beloved Ella Simms will no longer be making quips, since The CW prematurely pulled the plug on the Melrose Place redo. However Katie Cassidy will be seen on the same network, as a new love for Nate on Gossip Girl. Her character "is not what she appears.” and “will make trouble” for several characters. Her first air date will be the season 4 premiere.

And The Winners Were

Last night the daytime Emmy's were handed out and there were quite a few surprises. Drew Garrett who was up for the best younger actor statue lost to Drew Tyler Bell from the Bold and the Beautiful (more reaction on that later.) B&B walked away with the nights top awards, and As The World Turns which recently wrapped it's final episode took home the rest of the acting awards.

GG Superstars: Phile Reese and Joe Mirabella

If you haven't heard of Phil Reese (come on be honest gossipers you have) and Joe Mirabella you soon will. Their podcast Same Sex Sunday is growing in popularity, Phil explains how the show came to be "SameSexSunday is two projects merged into one. Almost two years ago Michael Crawford of the Bilerico Project is the guy who came up with the Twitter hashtag "#SameSexSunday" with Bil Browning to identify on Twitter those people who are movers and shakers in the LGBT movement. Late last year, Michael and I began working on an LGBT political roundtable show, and we decided to call it 'SameSexSunday.'"  Joe continued "I'll add, that I always loved watching Sunday Morning Talk Shows with my father when I was a kid. They provided important commentary on the week's news. I wanted to bring a similar format to the LGBT community and was more than excited when Bil Browning told me Phil was working on a similar project."  Who would the duo love to interview? "President Obama. Period end of story. I think that both Joe and I are of the same mind there." Phil answered with with a very firm agreement from Joe.

Wanting to get a bit more topical, the co-hosts were asked about the growing sentiment that the glbt community needs to take action to get Don't Ask Don't Tell repealed, instead of using words. Joe looks to the past to help us in our future, making sure we learn the lessons  "Historically speaking, every civil rights movement includes civil disobedience. However, we need to leverage every tool available. Civil disobedience alone will get us no where. We need savvy lobbyists, strong messaging, excellent media relations, an engaged constituency, elected officials who are true friends, and strategic coalitions with our Progressive allies. Moving forward is a complex process that demands cooperation from a variety of perspectives." Phil has a more interesting approach to  getting the results we want "I think that in order to get DADT gone, we need to continue to stay vigilant, stay visible, and keep the pressure on the lawmakers and the President to follow through with the time-table. That's easier said than done, but at some point, we'll be so annoying that they will repeal the ban to shut us up!"

Since most people don't have to worry about DADT, but they do have to worry about coming out, Joe and Phil were asked about the advice they would give to someone struggling to come out. Both encouraged coming out, saying that safety is the most important part of the process. "Find good, supportive and healthy gay and straight friends. Don't let anyone tell you there's anything you can't do. You can do anything. Support all the other queer people you meet--from all spectrums, they will be your champions when times get hard. Don't be afraid to be you, and to stand up for what you believe in. Don't be afraid to demand respect from your family, your friends, your neighbors and your community. Never put anyone else down, because that does not build you up, but never lose faith in who you are." Phil advised, making a good point. Joe suggested researching and truly preparing yourself "Make sure you come out in a safe environment. If you are still living with your parents, and you believe your parents may reject you or even kick you out of your home, you should either, wait to come out, or make sure you have a safe long term solution after you come out. Perhaps a sympathetic family member will volunteer to take you in ahead of time if your parents do not react positively. If you are old enough to support yourself, you should spend time learning about the gay and lesbian community. I read Michael Signorile's book, "Coming Out" when I was preparing to come out. It was very helpful." Joe then talked about safety and being happy in who you are "Whomever you are, if you are gay, lesbian, or transgender, it is vital that you safely come out to your friends, family, co-workers, church members, neighbors, and so on. You will be healthier and happier, and the LGBT community will be closer to full equality because of your advocacy."

From coming out to the Newsweek article claiming out actors can't portray straight characters. This topic created a bit of anger towards the one time respected News magazine Phil blasted "
Clearly I think the newsweek article was hogwash. I question the Newsweek editors on allowing such a clearly ignorant piece of filth get published. Newsweek is stumbling as a news organization, and perhaps its because their editors are asleep at the wheel." While Joe pointed out that an actors personal life does not impact their ability to portray an array of different characters. "I thought it was poorly written and missed the most obvious logical explanation. Bad actors can not play a variety of roles. Good actors can play characters that are far removed from their realities. Sexual orientation does not factor into a person's ability to their job, whether they are an actor, a pilot, a teacher, or even a President."

GG Investigates: Is ABC Daytime Homophobic?

ABC Daytime (ABC-D), in the beginning of the 2000's was on the cutting edge, where gay characters were concerned. Bianca Montgomery, daughter of the infamous Erica Kane came out and was launched into a major front burner storyline. they basked in the glow of praise from critics and the gay community.

Then the powers that be decided that it was a good idea to have Daytimes most prolific, and at the time only gay character be raped by the resident villian de jour Michael Cambias. Many viewers were outraged that the show had gone there with Bianca. Especially when the show decided to use the rape to drive a wedge between Binks and her then love Lena. Part of the problem was that only weeks before the show, and network had touted Lena and Biancas first kiss as breaking ground, and then suddenly they were being kept apart. Lena left shortly after learning that her former partner had be raped.

After the rape, Bianca stayed single for a very long time. She nursed a crush on her best friend Maggie, and fans took a shine to the couple, nicknaming them BAM. The show however choose not to pair the duo, instead putting Maggie in unsuccessful relationship, after unsuccessful relationship culminating in Maggie being involved in an abusive relationship. After that she decided to give Bianca a chance, however their love story happened off screen.

A short time later Bianca returned and was thrust into a relationship with Zarf/Zoe.She had ended things with Maggie due to the latter cheating. Fans were outraged, many claimed this was a way to get rid of Biancas "lesbianism." See Zarf was a male rock star, however he soon came out as transgender. Bianca and Zoe (as Zarf christened herself) began exploring themselves as a couple. However the majority of that relationship also happened off screen.

None of the examples cited above seems to suggest any homophobia on the part of All My Children or to a lesser extent ABC Daytime. However these are just the tip of the iceberg.In the years following though, there has been quite a different rule on gay characters since then, on ABC Daytime.

Take Lucas on General Hospital. They trumpeted his big secret, told the story in quite the fast pace. Once he came out the character suddenly disappeared. This was not some random character, someone who could or should be quickly forgotten, Lucas is the son of Bobbie Spencer, brother of show center Carly Cornithos Jax, and nephew of the legendary Luke Spencer. With that kind of lineage there is no way he should have gone away without so much as a good bye. In fact since the character left the canvas there has been nary a mention that he ever existed.

In late 2008, early 2009 it seemed ABC Daytime and All My Children were once again getting on track in terms of how they treated gay characters. Bianca was back in Pine Valley, and not only that but she and her girlfriend Reese Williams were getting ready to tie the knot. Fans cheered, they felt that all their patience was being rewarded and the cherry on the sundae, Reese was to be played by Soap Superstar Tamra Braun. Things quickly went sour when the supposed lesbian Reese found herself attracted to her brother in law Zack Slater. Fans felt gypped, and betrayed after all that time, and they were going to wimp out and have Reese leave Bianca for a man? Eventually Bianca and Reese reconciled and they went to live their lives in Paris. Then Head-writer Chuck Pratt put the  blame on star Eden Riegel, saying he had no idea "her contract was for 4 months."  and so the story he wanted to tell had to be expedited. A weak excuse, considering he is 2nd in command at the show.

Gay Fans of ABC-D were once again being handed hope by One Life To Live. they began telling the story of KISH, Kyle and Fish. Kyle was a med student who had taken to blackmailing residents of Llanview and Fish was a cop we knew very little about. That all changed when Fish began dating Leyla. Yes the story was very soapy but also very realistic. When KISH kissed ratings spiked and fans officially dubbed them the shows most popular pair, and a supercouple. Things seemed to be going well, the story being told was beautiful and then suddenly the actors, Brett Claywell (who was on contract) and Scott Evans were let go.

Official reasons varied from the ratings didn't go up like they thought they would, to focus groups showed that the KISH wasn't as popular as the message boards and other fans would have us believe. Christina Bennett Lind, who was recast as Bianca recently, theorizes that the reason Bianca stays so popular is because she is a mother, and has a family "In my opinion, the mother factor plays a big role. I think a lot of support goes to the fact that she's raising children and is married and is starting a family because family is so important to her. You see that everyone is the same -- just looking for love and looking to create a life for themselves, so it's easy to relate to them. It's all about relatability."

KISH was also relateable, not only with Fish coming out and coming to terms with his sexuality. But he had just found out that he was a daddy to baby Sierra Rose. What could have been a beautiful story of gay parents raising a baby, was cut short because allegedly some focus group didn't like the characters. As Mandy once asked, "who do they think their writing for?"

The latest slap in the face to fans, Bianca has returned home, with a new face, sans her wife and children. Real people of course come home to care for a loved one without their partner. However since she is back for an indefinite amount of time, why not have Reese and the kids fly home with her, and just remain off screen? Because  the show and to some extent the actress wants us to forget that Bianca is a lesbian, who knows if Reese will make an appearance again.

By making these storyline decisions,with a knee jerk reaction the network is saying that it's ok to be gay as long as it brings in the ratings. If it doesn't then forget gays, they want to focus on dime store villains, and run of the mill teens.

Helping Hand Follow Up: Breast Cancer.

In the last Helping Hands that ran, a woman had been diagnosed with breast cancer. One gossiper and dear friend Kim McNeil shared some much better advice than what I gave. Without further ado, here is what Kim had to say.

Royal,

catching up on GG (I have it book marked but always forget to check) so I read it in chunks. I came across the most recent "Helping Hand" post and wanted to add to the woman and the breast cancer question. I can't remember if I told you my Mom was diagnosed recently. She found a lump and opted to have a double mastectomy to prevent any cancer. And she is having reconstructive surgery as well in the next few months. Everything went well, although she does have to do a round of chemo sometime soon. She is not looking forward to it because of the wedding. But I think she will be fine. So let that woman know if she emails you that it is so important to get checked out and to make sure her daughter knows to check herself also. It is such a treatable cancer nowadays. If she lives in the metro detroit area, I can get the names of my mom's breast cancer surgeon and plastic surgeon.

Royal Rant: Why Erica Kane Matters

"I'm Erica Kane, Everything I do is breaking news." With this perfectly delivered line (it sounded like a gospel coming out of Susan Lucci's mouth) a character was defined and a path was set. Of course Erica Kane has been around for 40 years, but many of All My Children's  writers plain didn't know what to do with the grand diva of daytime. In fact she has been put in some very unbelievable plots including an un-abortion!!!

When I first began watching AMC, Erica was just beginning her long romance with Dimitri Marrick. I was entranced by this Goddess, and I had to learn everything I could about her. As I was watching what was unfolding on screen, I was amazed, she seemed so unreal, yet very grounded, she became my hero, my icon like Madonna.

Ally McBeal brought forth the opinion that feminism was dead back in the late 90's, early 2000's. While Ally was certainly changing peoples perception, I wonder why no one looked at Erica. Ally was clearly based at least loosely on daytimes most popular character. Unable to commit to men, check. Driven to be the best in her field, check. Unwilling to let others walk all over her, check. Ericas presence could also be found on both incarnations of Melrose Place, in Amanda Woodward and Ella Simms. The trio of women shared passion for work, men and destroying anyone who got in their way. And they owe in no small part, their popularity to the trailblazer that came before them.

But manipulating people, and ambition are not the only ways in which Erica Kane proves she is a feminist, and an inspiration. No Erica doesn't sit around and let life happen to her, or let anyone make decisions for her. When she found she was pregnant with husbands Jeff martins baby, she had to decide whether to carry the child to term or abort it. She choose the latter, and lost her marriage but she showed women that they had a choice, and the choice was theirs alone to make.

My research on my new found favorite character continued, and I was in awe. She stood by her decisions no matter how impulsive, or misguided. Rather than just standing by her decisions, she also dealt with the fall out with aplomb. I began to think like her, and why not she was rich, successful and loved by millions. Of course I realized she was just a fictional character but she possessed the same qualities as Madonna, someone who I looked up to also.

When I was 15/16 my younger sister was in a bit of a bad state, and my parents focus was on her. Even then I wanted attention, and had to figure out how to get the focus shifted back to me. I was deep in the closet, alternating between being in denial and embracing my sexual orientation so I briefly considered coming out, then decided it wasn't a good idea. I watched AMC as I always did, and found myself thinking, well Erica is hooked on pills and alcohol, I should get hooked on something too. Not the wisest line of thinking to be sure, looking back I realize how dumb it was. I looked through the medical cabinets and found some Nyquil. Yes Nyquil, I decided to go full force into my new addiction. I waited, and waited for someone to say something to me, nothing. Then I realized they couldn't say anything to me because I spent my time at school, or work. Then I thought well if I fall asleep in class the teacher will call and they will be forced to pay attention to me. Still nothing. I decided my first foray into Erica-dom was a failure. Years later when I told my mom what I had done, she sighed and said she knew, she couldn't confront me because when she and my stepdad noticed it, I was sleeping.

The next time my and Ericas story would intersect would be because of my sexuality. This time though I would be cast in the role of her daughter Bianca. Binks (as she is called) was starting to come out, as was I. Most of my friends new, and I even had a love interest. I watched with intrigue as person after person found out that Bianca was gay, and I wondered what Ericas reaction would be, I prayed it would be positive, as if it was I would tell my mom. When the day finally came, I watched with bated breath. Bianca finally said the words to her mom, and I watched as Erica didn't take the news well. Damn I thought I can not tell my mom now. There was no way I could deal with it, I was already under tremendous stress with school, work, disliking my moms new boyfriend, (my stepdad had died) plus the fall out from coming out at school (which was thankfully none). I continued ot watch and as Erica seemingly embraced Bianca, I decided it was go time, and I told my mom.(I will tell the whole coming out story another time). Then Erica paid Biancas friend/love interest $10,000 to get out of town. I was struck by panic and went through my moms checkbook to see if she had that kind of money to throw around. Thankfully she didn't.

Erica's influence on fictional characters, and real people including myself, is why she has become the icon that she is today. No other character, male or female has come close to the influence that Erica has enjoyed for over 40 years. Here's hoping she is around for another 40 years, Long Live Erica Kane!!!!

Mandy’s Musings: Pretty Little Ew….

I’ve been watching ABC Family’s new show, Pretty Little Liars on Tuesdays at 8. The commercials were just enough to catch my attention. The dead girl sends a text from her funeral? Okay, I’ll give it a shot. So I started watching the show, and I was pleasantly surprised to see some of my favorite actors in the cast. Chad Lowe (Jesse from Life Goes On), Holly Marie Combs (from Charmed, one of my fave shows ever) and Laura Leighton (from Melrose Place… never figured out how she got onto 90210 as anyone other than Sydney, since Melrose was a 90210 spinoff, but whatever…) play the parents of the main characters. It’s nice to see them playing their own ages. It seems Hollywood has been letting older people play younger people for way too long! (I just found out that Ian Ziering was 26 when he played 16-year-old Steve Sanders on the original 90210).

The basic story is that there were five friends, Emily, Spencer, Aria, Hanna and Alison who were inseparable. In the flashbacks, it seems like Alison was the leader, manipulating the others into doing what she wants. A prank gone too far apparently blinded a girl, who disappeared until a year later when Alison’s body was discovered, and attended the funeral. Alison had somehow managed to get the girl’s step brother to take the fall for the “accident.” It’s hard to tell from the flashbacks, but at some point after the “accident”, the girls have a sleepover in a shed of some sorts with alcohol, and while everyone is asleep, Alison disappears. Outside the funeral, the four remaining girls get a simultaneous text that seems to be from the departed Alison. Each of the four girls get their own private texts as well, all being warned that their dirty little secrets will come to light. They seem to have come from Alison, as they are about things only she knew.

I think they are throwing the right mix of parents into an obviously teen show. Holly Marie Combs plays Aria’s mother, Ella, who is still smitten with her husband Byron, played by Chad Lowe, even though he had an affair with one of his college students and Aria caught them. She promised not to tell her mom when Byron swore the affair was over, but she’s never been able to trust or be comfortable around her dad since. The whole family went to Iceland for a year for Byron’s sabbatical and when they come back, the girlfriend is now a teacher at his college and can’t be gotten rid of. She’s also weaseled her way into Ella’s professional life. Laura Leighton is Hanna’s mom, Ashley, who had to sleep with a cop to get Ashley out of shoplifting charges. He’s also the cop investigating Alison’s death, and when Alison’s body is found about a year after her disappearance, the investigation reopens. Emily is torn romantically between her boyfriend and the new girl in town. Spencer has high expectations from her family to live up to, but gets sidetracked when her sister’s fiancé puts the moves on her. Oh yeah, and Aria is sleeping with her English teacher.

This is where the show doesn’t work for me. These girls are sixteen and they have grown men throwing themselves at them. It’s disgusting and illegal. The show could have worked better if the girls had been in college instead of high school. Then it would still be taboo to mess around with the future brother-in-law and the guy who grades your papers, and all of these girls could easily pass for college-age. I’m really on the fence as to whether I’m going to keep watching this show. Spencer put the brakes on her could-have-been relationship with her sister’s now ex-fiance, and that’s good, but Aria continues to sleep with her teacher because they have some intense connection. It’s just wrong, and honestly I can’t figure out why a show like this is airing on ABC Family channel. This show really does have great potential, but it makes me uncomfortable watching a 16-year old girl screwing her teacher on a counter, a teacher that has to be at least 25 since he’s done with his own schooling. I’m not sure if I’ll keep watching, or if I’ll find another way to spend my Tuesday nights. The show is based on a book of the same title by Sara Shepard. Maybe I’ll read the book and see if that changes my attitude any. Books are always better than shows.

This week, Amanda Bynes tweeted that she was leaving the world of acting behind her and would enjoy her retirement. What? Isn't it crazy? A 24 year old retiring, this is unheard of, especially an actress who is landing consistent work. It would be very compelling if it was real, but 10 to 1, bigger and better scripts are piling up in her agents office at this very moment. This was probably her plan, announce her retirement so she could get some great scripts and eventually announce her triumphant return to acting.

Yet another bachelor break up rocked the gossip world this week. Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi announced on Monday that they were no longer an item. Suddenly the rumors started flying about the reasons for the busted union. Included in the rumors were that Vienna was dating Gregory Michael, a "Greek" actor and that Jake was with holding sex from her, because he likes boys. Can't anyone in Hollywood have a normal break up? You know just 2 people drift apart, instead we are treated to spectacular cheating scandals and/or some sort of other scandal.

Every time they said no, she would call it an injustice, adding to a long list of perceived injustices that she claims affected her performance. People have been trying and trying to excuse her f*ery. There is no excuse. She is not kind, she is not gracious, and she is cheap as s*.

Joe filing Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Queen of Republican controversy Sarah Palin is once again at the epicenter of a scandal. The former Alaskan governor had set up a defense fund, and on the website made it seem official.State Personnel Board investigator Timothy Petumenos however says that was not the case, and Sarah was very clever and made sure everything was compliant with the Alaska Executive Branch Act. Translation, while it wasn't illegal, there was something not quite right about the fund.

Bianca has been very front and center, breaking ground with each story she is given, that was under the careful watch of Eden Riegel. However Christina Lind, who is taking over the role seems to want to back away from daytimes first, and only lesbian characters sexuality. She talks about the ease with which she took the role. She says that Bianca being gay  "really the only pressure it adds is just making sure to represent this person as a full complete person who happens to be gay -- not making it more complicated than that."

After news of Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi split, rumors began flying as to what caused these 2 people who seemed to be so much in love to break up. The stories being circulated are as varied as the women who vied for Jakes heart on The Bachelor.

Jake Is Gay: One of the more believable stories going around is that Jake did the hit ABC reality show in order to launch his career and to avoid the pesky gay rumors that dog every leading man at some point. A lot of sources indicate that he and Vienna had not had sex, and he only kissed her when there were cameras around.

Vienna Was Cheating: Vienna has been spotted with Dante's Cove and Greek actor Gregory Michael which has made people start to speculate that she was stepping out on Jake. Gregory says “I’m not a homewrecker, “Vienna and I met on Saturday night at the Children’s Oncology Prom, a charity that I am very passionate about.”

Evan Picking up Brandons Life?

When Brandon Buddy announced via Twitter that he was leaving the role that made him famous, Cole Thornhart on One Life To Live, people immediately began speculating about what would happen to the character. Many thought the powers that be would simply send the character off to prison for a while.

A new wrinkle has emerged though, Evan Alex Cole, of As The World turns fame, revealed that he has been auditioning for a contract role on OLTL. There is no word yet on what the role is, but Evan does bear a striking resemblance to Brandon.

More Blood For HBO

In a day of not so shocking news, this tidbit has to be the least shocking of all. HBO has renewed it's vampire soap opera True Blood for a fourth season, which should bow next summer. HBO president Michael Lombardo excitedly shared the good news, and pinned his hopes on the next season“The new season of True Blood is off to a terrific start, as enthusiasm for this unique show continues to build among both subscribers and critics, We’re looking forward to more chills from Alan Ball and his gifted team next year.”

Back in April former star of The Bachelor and Dancing With The Stars Contestant Jake Pavelka said that while he was sad he was eliminated, he was happy to get to spend time with his fiancee Vienna Girardi. He said that they needed to "focus on our relationship and just see where life takes us right after that."


Just mere months later, the tune has changed and the couple have officially split. A rep for the couple confirmed the not so shocking news “Jake and Vienna have split, They appreciate the respect for their privacy at this time.”

Brandon Has Very Little Life Left

One Life To Live is at a crossroads with it's young set now. Brandon Buddy, who plays young hero, Cole Thornheart tweeted that he is leaving the beleaguered soap. "It's a bittersweet day,Today I decided I'm not going to re-sign [my contract]. No more Llanview..."

OLTL must now decide what to do, will they kill off Cole, who is Starrs high School sweetheart, and father to Hope? Send him to prison? Or will they simple set about recasting the popular role? No statements have been released from ABC-Disney or the show as of yet.

GG superstar Max Tapper is looking to add more to his ever increasingly busy schedule. Between shooting wheat thin commercials, taping One Life To Live, and shooting his mini movies Who is Johnny X, he wants to be included in a Tyler perry movie. The thespian took to his twitter and facebook accounts and urged fans to help him any way they could, asking for contact information and more "Anybody know Tyler Perry, Get me a contact. I'm tryna get in one of his movies."

No Name Change For Cougar Town

According to Cougar Town star Dan Byrd, he doesn't believe that the title will be changed next season as many thought it would be. "I think it seemed like a very real possibility when we wrapped up the first season, But I think the problem they've run into is that they can't come up with a better name to really justify doing that and the repercussions that come along with it." He continues to say "If I was a betting man—which I am, so I'm not sure why I just used that expression—I would say we're probably going to stick with what we got."

Amanda Bynes announced via twitter that she is no longer an actress. "I don't love acting anymore so I've stopped doing it," She continued to say "Being an actress isn't as fun as it may seem. I've never written the movies & tv shows I've been apart of, I've only acted like the characters the producers or directors wanted me to play." And to make sure we all understood what she was getting at, she finished "If I don't love something anymore I stop doing it."

Toy Story Opens Huge

 This weekend, Fathers were busy opening the ties their children bought them, and then treating said children to a movie. Toy Story 3 opened to over 100 million, making it Pixars biggest first weekend ever, and cementing the 3-D fad as one that will not be disappearing anytime soon.

Bingu Wa Mutharika President of Malawi and  African Union chair doesn't want donors to worry about gay people, rather he wants the focus to be on the children. He issued this stern directive to anyone who wants to donate to his country, “The role of protecting children is for everyone. I want religious leaders and civil society groups to speak on the rights of children, not a man marrying a man. Donors should stop assisting confuses people (gays). Why fight for gay rights instead of children’s rights?”

Royal Recomends: Between Boyfriends

Being a soap fan, reading that Between Boyfriends main character Steven Bartholomew Ferrante is a producer on the fictional If Tomorrow Never Comes, I was intrigued. Many a time I have read a book with soaps as a back drop and it seems as though the author is making fun of the soaps rather than celebrating them. This book however straddles the line, yes they can be absurd but real life is sometimes even more bizarre than what we see on our TV screens.

The plot is actually simple enough, Steven, after being dumped four years prior, is still looking for the perfect mate. With the supporting cast of characters being even more amusing than Steven, the highlight being Sebastien who is sex crazed and fun. He is also lusted after by the other characters, even if he is a "second tier friend."

Steven being neurotic would easily turn this story into a cartoon, but Michael Salvatore keeps the story tight and moves it along at just the right pace. He is also not afraid to use twists that would make even the most avid soap fan roll their eyes. Steven jealous of current boyfriend Brians relationship with his best friend Rodrigo uses colorless hair color to try and ruin Rodrigo by turning his hair green. The plot backfires when Brian turns up with the green hair setting up the next arc of mistrust.

The best subplot is that if Stevens best friend Flynn and his boyfriend Lucas. Lucas is a star on If Tomorrow Never Comes, and inexplicably becomes a better actor after being injured. After a chance meeting a Starbucks Flynn and Lucas begin the love affair that ultimately defines the book. unconditional love is very hard to come by and yet the arc between these 2 men is that of that very thing,

With just enough plot twists to keep the reader hooked, and improbable turns that make you realize real life is truly stranger than fiction, Between boyfriends manages to keep the level of drama up and not miss the chance for a great piece of comedy. Hopefully Michael Salvatore decides to revisit these friends and let us know what happens next in their lives. but If Tomorrow Never Comes at least we had today

GG Investigates: Soapnets Death Is Good For Daytime

When Disney announced that Soapnet would be morphed into Disney Jr, alarmist started calling the death of all soaps. In fact groups popped up all over facebook, some trying to save Soapnet, other trying to save the soaps. Hardly anyone was able to see the good in the demise of the network that was dedicated to daytime dramas.

How is the demise good for the soaps? First and foremost with soapnet gone, the ratings will increase. Each time is was shown on the cable network, the ratings did not count for that, but with Soapnet gone, people will be forced to watch on the network again, either live or on DVR. All My Children Star Jacob Young has always urged fans to watch his show on ABC, saying "The ratings for Soapnet don't count, please watch the show live."

When Days Of Our Lives went through massive budget cuts, what emerged was a leaner, better show. If all the shows weeded out the garbage, and made the hard decisions. Yes Days fired some beloved daytime vets, Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn, but it also allowed Days to bring back some other vets for short term arcs.

In fact All of the shows could clear away some of the fat of their cast and tell some great short term arcs, with fan favorites. AMC could bring back Justin Bruening as Jamie Martin in an arc that involves his dad and the Martin family arch rival David Hayward. Or One Life To Live could use it's trimmed down cast and budget to add some flavor to it's stories, Like Maybe Oliver had slept with the man slut known as Ford causing problems with Kyle, which could lead to more story for Rex and Gigi and would add another suspect(s) to the who beat ford story.

Also with reduced budgets, maybe soaps will stop hiring the same head writers over and over again. Daytime is the only industry where you can fail and still get a job doing what you love. With less money to go around, the powers that be may have to look outside of the industry and find someone who has the skills to tell good solid stories but will also work for cheap.

While Soapnet going dark is nothing to celebrate, it is something that can be used as a tool to save the industry that is so beloved. Before critics and other start calling the death of an entire industry, why don't they try and turn this negative into a positive.

Do you think that you are poised to over take him, certainly your popularity is on the uptick, as I thought I was the only one of my friends who read the site but quite a few people I talked ot praised you. They said that they read Generation Gossip to stay away from the tweens and the bitches, they come here like I do for a refreshing change of pace. For shame. Shame on you for doing the story on poor Perez Hilton. What if the roles were reversed would you want him to follow the scandal that closely? I don't think so, at this time, Perez needs the whole community to surround him and pour their love on him not take the opportunity to oust him as the biggest blogger.  Truly you have shown yourself to be coldly ambitious and don't care about anything except your career. Shame. And Shame on Miley if she had been wearing underwear non of this broo haha would have happened.

The queen is dead! Long Live Royal!!! Perez finally went way over the line and is going to be thrown off the throne and no one deserves it more than you. Michael K and Enty lawyer from Dlisted and CDAn are certainly great entertainers but you are more than that to alot of people, you are truly a journalist, and in the gossip community that is what we have been waiting for. Someone who isn't going to give their opinions on every story but rather tell us the story and let us make the judgments ourselves. As you ascend to the place where you so richly deserve to be, please remember what helped you get there and don't change, we love you and GG the way it is.

Royal Rant: Pride, What Changed

My first Pride is a day I will never forget. My friend Christina and her girlfriend at the time Sarah picked me up from work and told me they were taking me to this festival for gay people. I had never heard of such a thing, I mean logically I knew I wasn't the only gay person in the world but surely I was the only gay man in the area in which I lived.I realize how naive that sounds now, but at the time I was still new to the whole coming out thing.

When we got there, I felt like Dorothy from the Wizard Of Oz. Everything was so exciting, so new, not to mention the guys that hit on me. Christina commented on the change that had taken over me, at that point I was out and proud, very much the activist. She said that while I was all that she noted the hint of lust in my eyes, and that she knew Pride would truly bring me out of my shell. It was the best day of my life, and I counted down the days until the next pride.

Every year since then, Pride has been my holiday of choice. once May rolls around I get excited for that first Sunday in June. I take my vacation to coincide with the day, and the one time I wasn't able to get the day off, I did what any good homo would do, I called off. As I said this is my holiday and there was no way I was missing it. Of course it doesn't help that the night before Pride is what I call Pride Eve, kind of like New Years Eve, but as I said Pride is all of the holidays wrapped into one for me.

A funny thing happened this year though. May came and went and there was no excitement, no countdown. What was wrong with me? Where was my enthusiasm? As I began talking to friends about my lack of happiness, my lack of energy in terms of Pride. One thing became very clear to me, the problem did not lie with me necessarily. It was pride itself, it has morphed into something I don't recognize, no longer were there the campy fun like  Drag Queens,  or boys in underwear handing out condoms. In their place is 2 stages of singers, and to be honest not very talented ones. One stage is full of karaoke singers who make William Hung, of American Idol fame, look good. Seriously these performers would make a great episode of auditions for American Idol, the laughter would be worth it. Before anyone says anything to me, I know I can't sing, that's why I write and not sing.

It felt like something shifted this year, and no longer was I in Oz but back in suburbia and i was a laughing stock because I was not part of a "gay" family. Even the vendors this year shifted towards more family friendly, more functional. In years past ID Lube was a major sponsor of the event, this year it was a mortgage company geared towards helping families find homes. Theres nothing wrong with that, in fact I encourage it, but there hgas to be a balance, what about those of us who don't have a family, those of us who are not able to buy houses?

Is there a fix for this pride problem? Or have I finally reached the plateau, where I am no longer young nor am I old so there is no pleasing me? No, as always there is a middle ground. Why not have drag queens compete in an America's Next Top Model type of competition or the new corner stone of Logo's programming Drag Race.  With the vendors, why not try and go after a company like TLA, they produce movies both for family and for adults. What about HERE! and Logo, where are they? Why aren't they participating in Prides around the nation?

By contrasting the family friendliness with a touch of campiness and some naughty fun, Pride can be restored to it's former glory in my eyes. If you are sitting on the planning committee for any Pride-fest please consider that you're audience is more than just families. By blending in we are sending a message to other people that we feel we are immoral or wrong, by standing out and carefully including everyone in our festivities we show the world what I have believed since my very first Pride: That gay community is all inclusive, no matter what you look like, no matter what your backstory is, you will always be accepted by us. And isn't that what PRIDE is all about?

 The other day my son and I were driving along and he was telling me about his morning.  I was only half-listening because well, that’s what moms do when they don’t really want to hear about farming or digging, or whatever he’s been doing that day.  Apparently he told me he killed a snake at the creek, but it went over my head.  But then he brought it back up and said, “Well then I had to throw it in the creek so it wouldn’t come back!”



“So what wouldn’t come back?” I asked.



“The snake!”



“Wait, you threw a snake in the creek?”

“Yes, after I killed it!”

“How did you kill it?”



“With a shovel.”



“And then you threw it in the creek?  Why?”



“Because Mike (a neighbor) told me that’s the only way to keep it from coming back to life.”



I paused for a minute.  I let it sink in.  Then I almost had to pull over from laughing so hard.  “A snake can’t come back to life!”

“Yes it can!  It can grow back its tail and come back to life and chase you!”



“No, a worm can regrow its tail, a gecko can, I think, but definitely not a snake.”



Then he joined me in all the laughing.  At some point during all this, we had passed my dad’s truck, so we decided to pick up sandwiches and milkshakes to share and turned around for home.  We kept laughing about how Mike teased Noah that the snake would come back and chase him.  We pulled in the driveway and turned off the car and then my son yelled, “Look at that giant snake on the porch light!”  Of course I thought he was joking since we had just been laughing about snakes coming back.  But I looked.  And then I screamed!  It was a huge snake!  It was on the beams of our porch over the porch light and it was SO long that we couldn’t see either end of it, just that it was humped over the light fixture.



Now our porch isn’t very big, but it takes a few steps to get from the top stair to the doorway, so it’s a decent size, and the damn snake was longer than that!  My dad was at the other end of the driveway getting ready to mow the lawn, so my son ran from the car and jumped in his truck bed and pointed out the snake.  My dad came to my car and tried to coax me out, but I wasn’t moving!  My son proceeded to eat his lunch in the truck bed where he thought he was safe.  Finally my dad talked me out of the car and I ran for the truck bed, too.  We kept an eye on the snake the whole time.  Then all of a sudden it started to move!  And it was disappearing!  I got brave and went to the other side of the porch to see where it was going, but it was half gone!  I screamed and ran some more.



My dad said the pillar it was on was hollow inside which is why he put bricks on top of it.  I thought the bricks were there to keep birds from nesting there, but apparently they had a dual purpose.  I freaked out, yelling how the snake was going inside the pillar.  So my dad got brave (he HATES snakes! He said if he had seen it before I got home, he would have been GONE!  And I would still be sitting in my car terrified) and took a shovel and started whacking at the snake’s tail.  It was split open and gross.  He said it was dead now, even though it kept twitching.  So we sat in the truck bed again (because it’s safe) and tried to figure out how to get the “dead” snake out of the pillar.  There was enough of its tail to grab ahold of, but none of us were willing to touch it.  It kept moving and twitching, and then the tail started curling up on itself.  It was definitely moving!  I screamed some more.  I’m a wimp; I know.  I didn’t want it to get inside the pillar and die and get all stinky!  So my dad went to the garage to look for something that could help, and he came back with a can of wasp spray.  He tried to spray it into the pillar but obviously wasn’t tall enough.  My son was still in the truck bed and he was high enough to see the top of the pillar and loudly pointed out that it was doing no good.  So my dad got out a ladder, which I had to hold, and he got to the top of the pillar and sprayed some more.  Then he climbed down, handed me the spray and said, “Fire this at the snake if it comes back.”



I was like, what the hell?  I’m not sticking around here!  But I did, I stayed by my car with the can of wasp spray and my dad went back to the truck bed with my son and they finished their milkshakes.  Suddenly, from the top of the pillar comes a fountain of foamy wasp spray and a SNAKE!!!!!  It was flying across the top of my porch again, this time dripping wasp spray and BLOOD!  My son had at some point borrowed a hoe from the neighbor so my dad used it to pull the snake from the porch to the ground.  We ALL screamed and jumped again.  He bashed it with the hoe and all was calm…for about ten seconds until the snake started taking off toward the backyard!  My dad ditched the hoe and grabbed the shovel again and started bashing the snake!  “There,” he said, “it’s finally dead!  OOooh shit, no it’s not!”  The snake lunged at him - its whole front was off the ground and lunging at my dad!  He bashed it again and then snake chunks started flying.  It was pretty gross.  But it was dead!



In all this mess, our dog was still in the house, barking up a storm because there was so much commotion outside and she was stuck inside, so with the snake dead at the corner of my house, I finally was brave enough to go inside and get the dog.  As I took her onto the porch, my son came up to me… with the other neighbor’s dog!  She had broken her chain and came over to visit.  Usually she runs but apparently she wanted petted that day, so it was a good thing she came right up to my son.  But MY dog doesn’t like other dogs on HER property, so my tiny lemon beagle Dixie decided to go after the HUGE coon hunting dog Peaches, and of course my dog slipped her collar.  So my son shoved Peaches at my dad who grabbed ahold of her, and then he went after Dixie.  We live in the country but it’s a busy street and Dixie has already been hit by a car once, so we get really scared when she gets loose.  But luckily my son got ahold of her, my dad had Peaches, and all was right with the world again.  But poor Dixie had to go back in the house so Peaches could borrow her leash and we took her home.  In all this madness, all I could think was, If that snake gets any closer to me I’m gonna die, and I wish Billy the Exterminator was here….



For those of you who don’t know, Billy the Exterminator airs on A&E.  It’s about a family-owned pest control business, Vexcon.  It’s set in Louisiana and Billy and his brother Ricky go around and take care of pests like rodents, roaches, gators and snakes.  They got some notice when Billy was a guest on the show Dirty Jobs.  Their first season was called The Exterminators, but apparently Billy rocked it, cuz by second season it was retitled Billy the Exterminator.   The show is kinda like The Osbourne’s meet The Croc Hunter.  They dress all goth and wear spikes and mullets, but they educate you about the critters they’ve just captured.  I now know more about raccoons than I ever wanted to, and I also no longer want to visit Louisiana.  It’s a pretty scary place!







Billy seems to be the main character of the show.  He cuts his own hair into the mullet and uses beeswax to keep the spikes flexible yet sturdy.







His brother Ricky also sports a mullet, but his hair is curly and… whatever. It’s a mullet.  Yeah, that’s his mug shot from TMZ.com.  He had a DUI last month…







Their dad Big Bill (who does NOT have a mullet) runs the business and their mom Donnie runs the office and always calls Billy when he’s driving his big truck and tells him it’s an emergency that he go get the raccoons or armadillos or gators or snakes.  Oh, and Donnie seems to be the type of person who always has to have it out for someone.  First it was Ricky’s wife Pam.  But now she’s gone, so Donnie has taken to attacking Billy’s wife Mary.  It’s always something!  As crazy and entertaining as the show is, Billy always gets his critter.  And I really wanted Billy to be at my house to take care of the snake we were all so terrified of!  And I wanted him to relocate it at Mike’s place, so we could tell him he was right; snakes DO come back after you, but they come back bigger and meaner, and it’s all Mike’s fault!







Billy the Exterminator airs Wednesdays at 10pm on A&E.  You can also fan them on facebook to see exclusive interviews with the cast and to keep up on the marathons, which seem to air all the dang time!  My cousin Robbie and I always post on each other’s facebook walls when there’s a marathon, which is practically every weekend!
