Mary Hart Signing Off

I haven't written about this yet, due to an acute case of sadness. Mary Hart announced earlier this month that at the end of Entertainment Tonights upcoming season she would relinquish her chair as co-anchor.Her reasoning was that she wanted ot spend more time with family and tackle other projects “I’ve reached a point when I clearly realize it’s time for a change. There are many things I want to do in my life, and I’d better get on with them. It will certainly be with mixed sentiments that I say goodbye at the end of the season, but it will definitely be with a sense of celebration.” However after some investigation we learned that this is the happy face the publicists put on the situation and it is rather sticky, See ET is syndicated and fewer stations are paying for the licensing fees. Herein lies the problem with less money coming in, the show had to cut their budget somewhere and since Mary is rumored to make about $5 million a year she was asked to take a pay cut. In fact reports suggest for just the 1 year renewal she agreed to, she had to take a cut as much as 50% of her current pay. Couldn;t they have just let go of Samantha Harris or Mark Steines? ET without Mary is like All My Children without Susan Lucci...
