GG Cares About Juvenile Diabetes
Type 1 or juvenile diabetes as it is commonly called is a disorder of the bodys immune system. The immune system attacks and destroys cells called beta cells, which are in the stomach. Beta cells produce insulin, which helps move the glucose in the food through out the body, helping energize the body. However when these cells are destroyed the glucose can't be moved and stays in the blood, which can cause organ damage. Therefore a person who has suffers from this disease has to take insulin in order to stay alive.
Generally type 1 diabetes is diagnosed in children, teens, and young adults. While the cause is not yet known, it is believed that genetic, environmental, autoimmune factors are involved. Symptoms may include a sweet, fruity, wine like odor; increased appetite, rapid weight loss, heavy breathing. If you or someone you love are experiencing any of these symptoms please contact your physician immediately and get tested for diabetes.
However there is still hope. According to Gossiper Laura Gisel, who is a mother to the beautiful little girl in the picture above scientist are working on a cure. "There is some good news, though. For the first time, scientists are predicting that we CAN expect to see a cure well within our lifetime!" In order to help find the cure Laura along with another half million people are walking for a cure, in hopes of raising $100 million dollars. If you would like to help them achieve this goal, here is the link to donate.
